Description

Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve (WWW/ZFP) is a 150 acre land preserve in Westchester County, on the border of Stamford CT and Pound Ridge NY, and is part of the Westchester Land Trust. It features a modest 8 mile trail network that passes through rocky terrain and it's best boulder fields. The trail system was designed to pass through the boulders themselves, so in some cases your crashpad will be on or near the edge of the trail.

Overall, this preserve is fantastic. There is significant natural history here, fun single track for trail running, and the bouldering is decent for a small area. It's certainly enough to keep yourself entertained if you live close by but it’s not a destination climbing area by any means. The problems in the Southern Loop are fun but sometimes short and contrived, while in the Central Roundabout and Eastern Loop the problems are a bit taller, but on the easier side. Climbing is allowed here, but like all climbing areas, access may be revoked if we over-impose or abuse the rules. The primary user group here are hikers and I would suspect, given how uptight people are in this area, that one complaint about climbers might result in loss of access. So with that said, stay on trials, clean up after yourself, and be courteous to hikers. Maintain social distancing, be wary of erosion, minimize landscaping, keep dogs leashed, and park in designated parking areas. I would also suggest making a donation to the preserve (no I am not paid to say that). Getting There

WWW/ZFP is located on Upper Shad Rd in Pound Ridge, NY. From their website:

Directions: The Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve has two parking lots. One lot is on Upper Shad Road, about a quarter mile from Long Ridge Road. The lot can be muddy after rain and there are a few extra spots on the road shoulder. The second lot is a five-car gravel lot on Joshua Hobby Lane, just off Upper Shad Road. Please respect and protect our neighbors, the community, and yourself, by only parking in designated locations. If parking lots are full please come back another time or visit a different preserve.
