Description

Lake Tahoe's west shore climbing spots range from roadside boulders to ridgetop cliffs on the Sierra crest. The most popular are clustered around Emerald Bay, up Eagle Creek Canyon (for sport, trad and ice) and D.L. Bliss State Park (extensive bouldering). Some spots here aren't documented yet on Mountain Project, or at all.

Getting There

State Route 89 is the starting point for all points along the West Shore, unless you're biking or hiking in from somewhere nearby. In the south, starting in South Lake Tahoe, it may be signed or shown online as Emerald Bay Road. In the north, from Tahoe City heading south, it will be West Lake Boulevard.

In peak season weekends, this two lane mountain road can get congested with traffic.
