Access Issue: Use BLM route to access Massacre, see driving directions on the main page below. DO NOT TRESPASS ON PRIVATE 'SHORT CUT' FARM ROADS!! The land owners are asking climbers be respectful and not trespass on their private property.
Details
The land owners are monitoring their farm roads and are asking climbers not to trespass and if they catch you, they will ask you to turn around. There is concern about liability, near misses at high speeds on the farm roads, and disruption of hunting on the cedar mound on their property. When using the BLM access route, there is a short section of private land between two metal gates that is also being monitored by the land owner for trespassing. Fortunately, there is an option to avoid this stretch. Adjacent to the private metal gate, there is a new public metal gate separating BLM land from Idaho State public land. Go through the right hand gate (close it behind you) and follow a newly cut road until you can join the regular 2 track road.
Description
Le Petite Covette is a well protected alcove with a huge sand dune that is blown in nearly to the top of the south wall. There is climbing on a west facing crag and ona a northwest facing crags. These crags offer excellent route and shade well past noon for hotter days.
Getting There
There are a couple options from the west rim parking. From P1 parking hike past Eagle wall and up a sandy trail to gain the mesa. After a short hike, drop into Le Petite Covette (20 mins from P1 parking).
Or if you're at the All American Area, you can continue east past the South of the Border Area and hike another 5 minutes into the mouth of Le Petite Covette.
