Description

The Charcoal Trail is an easy .5-mile loop that follows an old coaling road through woodlands where local residents made the charcoal that fueled the Catoctin Iron Furnace. Exhibits along the path interpret various skills and trades entailed in the charcoal-making process. There a number of boulders accessible from this trail.

Getting There

From the Visitor Center, follow Park Central Road 1 mile to the Charcoal Exhibit. The exhibit is the second parking area on the right before the road veers left and up a steep hill.
